Gymboree at Manila Ocean Park

My son’s school had a fieldtrip at the Manila Ocean Park today. However, I was dismayed because I was hoping that after more than 6th months since we last visited Manila Ocean Park, there would be new features to behold in the oceanarium.

After six months, we were practically seeing the same attractions aside from new stores and restaurant available. No other amenities were added. We still had to go through the same disorganized set up in the exit area and no other beautification was done. It seems that you were exiting in a fire exit area. Not even an escalator was available. You had to use the stairs.

The upside is that I am happy that my son had a great day with his classmates in the oceanarium.

  • Nowadays, we don’t have to go quite far or outside Manila in order to enjoy the great sights of the underwater.

We were blessed to be among the earliest visitors of Manila Ocean Park ever since it opened in February 29, 2008. This water theme park is the Philippines’ first state-of-the-art Oceanarium located at the back of the Quirino Grandstand.

When Kit, Kyle and I went there, we were also with my husband’s cousins. Since we have dropped off to the entrance area and even during the purchase of the tickets, our cameras got busy as the areas surrounding us were truly click-worthy.

Manila Ocean Park was not as huge as I thought the main attraction lies in the underwater tunnel of the “Buhay na Karagatan” area. This is where our cameras clicked non-stop.

Manila Ocean Park, Oceanarium is a 25-meter long walkway tunnel with 220-degree curved acrylic walls similarly seen in Ocean Park Hong Kong, Singapore’s Underwater World in Sentosa, Siam’s Ocean World in Bangkok, Thailand and Kuala Lumpur’s Aquaria in Malaysia. The difference between MOP’s is a 220-degree curved tunnel as compared to the standard 180-degree curved tunnels seen in other Asian countries.”

We enjoyed the sights of the open water marine habitat and this is where our cameras clicked non-stop. We could’ve lingered had we known that once you’ve reached the end of the tunnel, you will not be able to go back to the tunnel. This could probably be the remedy of the management for the jam-packed visitors of the place.

Nevertheless, visiting Manila Ocean Park is a fun experience one should take as well as a spot that every Filipino should be proud of.

  • t-manila_ocean_.jpgIf you ask me what country in Asia I want to visit with our family, I always answer  Singapore because I want to see the country’s underwater world resort, situated on Sentosa Island of Singapore. It is well-known oceanarium showcasing some 2500 marine life from 250 species from around the regions since its opening in 1991.

I want to see and walk through 83-metre-long moving travelator 180-degree curved walls a tunnel housing the majestic rays, fearsome sharks, great shoals of other fishes and a host of other creatures that inhabit the ocean depths.

This is why I am sio happy when I heard that Manila Ocean Park will open in Manila Bay Area. This P1-billion project of Singaporean and Malaysian investors is a world class marine park. The park is the first and largest aquarium in the Philippines. A 12,000 cubic meters of seawater wiuth 300 marine species from Philippines and Southeast Asia.

This will be the most advanced ocean parks in Asia larger than the famous Sentosa oceanarium in Singapore. But unlike Singapore Underwater world, Philippine oceanarium is a 25-meter long walkway tunnel with 220-degree curved acrylic walls.I am so happy that it will now open this March 2008 after few delays on their expected opening last December.

I am sure I will save money in terms of fare to bring my family down under the waterworld.

    Operating Hours
Manila Ocean Park is open from 10am – 9pm, Mondays through Sundays.

    Entrance Fee
The Entrance Fee for adults is PHP400 (approximately US$10) and PHP350 (approximately US$9) for children.
