Panciteria San Jacinto

Last week, we visited one of the oldest restaurants of the country just to try again one of my favorite soups which is the bird nest soup. It is called Panciteria de San Jacinto, specifically in Pasig branch along the C-5 road. The restaurant operated since 1894 but this is not already the first ever one. Still, it is claiming that the taste of the old time pancit is still the same.

The place is really cozy although the meals are pricey for their serving size. We ended up ordering different noodle types from pancit canton to bijon because one serving isn’t enough. People who come back are probably driven by the taste and nice ambiance of the place.

  • A Little Taste of Heaven

“A little taste of heaven” is a tagline one will see when reading through the foil packaging of Kraft Philadelphia Original Cream Cheese. The packaging also indicated that the brand earned a “consumers’ choice” status based on research.

One should taste Kraft Philadelphia in order to conclude that indeed, the cheese product is very delicious (at least according to my taste buds). My golly — calories aside — I could finish the entire pack in one sitting! So count me in the statistics of consumers who just love this brand.

  • Oliver’s Super Sandwich

When I heard about the health benefits you will get from drinking lemon grass juice, the only place that came to my mind is the Oliver’s Super Sanwiches because it serves healthy fruit juices including lemon grass juice.

My wife always dares me to try drinking the juice, since I already tried various fruit juices combined with bitter gourd, ginger and garlic. She was sure I could also afford to drink the lemon grass juice. Every time we are able to pass by that branch, I am really tempted to try. But I always say how about to try blackberry juice from a Blackberry plants first. They have almost the same health benefits and nutrients anyway.

During my college days at the Colegio de San Agustin in Bacolod City, 21st street Food Corner used to be our favorite place if we wanted batchoy or burgers. During that time, the restaurant was not yet converted into a bar/restaurant. The bar is now called Bar 21 Restaurant. The bar continues to serve foods to Negrenses for more than two decades already. People who tried it become regular visitors of the place.

My last visit in the place was in 2001 where the outlet already upgraded to become a little upscale and classy bar. I noticed it has new foods in its menu with their spareribs and pizza being the favorite item. But I am not sure if they are still serving batchoy. I only know they are still doing so since during my last visit I was there to just a hang out and have a bottle of drink.

Hopefully I could visit and see the place again again this time with my own family.

  • Bun on the Run

During my Assumption days in college, Greenbelt 1 was my usual hang-out because it’s almost walking distance from school. Specific places I would usually visit included National Bookstore (I’m a bookworm, remember?), Music One and yes, the movie house every weekend. Through all those window shopping and movie watching, Bun on the Run’s beef franks hotdog with chili was keeping me company.

It closed shop with the renovation of Greenbelt and nearly a decade later, I could see Bun on the Run in Metrowalk. My sister just shared with me that Bun on the Run is back in Greenbelt. I’d better go and check this out once again. For old time’s sake.

    Bun on the Run Specialties:

    Choriburger; All Meat Sausage with Chili & Cheese; All Meat Sausage with Pickles & Onions;

  • Ling Nam – Restaurant in GreenBelt

What started as a search for a Chinese fastfood for merienda turned out to be a nostalgic afternoon for me. I didn’t realize that Ling Nam was revived until now when I saw it in Greenbelt 1 in Makati.

I looked back during the late 70s and I was still in prep, my mother would take us to Ling Nam every weekend. It was located in “Glorietta” nearly across Syvel’s Department Store in Makati. Glorietta then was far different from what it is now. It was known as a park and Ling Name was somewhere in the middle. Our order would usually be beef noodles, mongo siopao and sago at gulaman for beverage.

As I grew up and as Glorietta would be developed, I saw less and less of Ling Nam until it disappeared.

Decades later and fast forward to the present, I was really excited to dine in at Ling Nam and ordered almost all of what I used to order (minus sago and gulaman). I’m so happy that Ling Nam manages to maintain the delicious taste of its meals especially its mongo siopao which I truly missed.
