I already saw the printed results of the pre-nuptial photos I took for my sister in-law and her fiance (and now husband) in Boracay. Although I am generally satisfied, I still really want to make them look better. I am still dreaming of owning an external flash. If only I have that, maybe I could make the outputs better.

Maybe I should save enough to buy it for her wedding. I really value every photo I have taken even during the time that I was still using film camera. I also bought an album not just for photos but also for the negatives. Now that I am using digital camera, I always see to it to have it save on my hard drive as well as burn it on CD. I also upload it online and hopefully I will have it saved on large capacity and fast compact flash drive. Captured unforgettable memories can only be taken once that’s why I put importance t it.

Why is there still a need to go to the famous proposal rock near Nescowin Beach in Oregon just to propose for marriage when you can have it also in Boracay? There is a famous rock formation also located at the station one of the island.

The rock formation in Boracay can be compared to the famous proposal rock in Oregon. It is certainly a nice place and in fact, a perfect place a romantic marriage proposal to give your diamond rings engagement to each other. Just give it with caution and care so the rings will not fall. But not to worry too much because the waves here is not as big as in Oregon.

As we all know, one Filipina bride was swept away by about three feet high and missing and believed to have died near the proposal rock.

It’s really fun if you will visit Boracay during summer time and Lenten season and other holidays. There a lots of events happening in the island during this peak season. It depends on you if you really want a non stop party in the island but it will cost you a lot. It’s hard to find a cheap resort, hotels and other resorts in this period of time. It’s also hard to have better accommodation if you happen to miss making reservations early.

So if your purpose is only to visit and feel the island’s atmosphere even with limited budget, visit during off peak season. This means from the month of June to first week of December. Better if you have friends in the island so you have someone to find you some good and better place to stay which is not so expensive. This is better than depending on what travel agencies offer. Do not stay in the beach front hotels and resorts. While the view is better, they are so expensive. Anyway you will not be using your room that much since all the time you’ll be on the beach. If you’re staying there for three days and two nights, you will need your room in changing attire and some personal use but other than that… oh well except if it is your honeymoon.

Maybe until 2-3am then that’s the only time you will use your room.just  to sleep. But if you’re single and have found someone in the island to spend your night outside or someone’s room. You have to be early in the next day if you want to have an island hopping and snorkeling because boats for island hopping usually embarked at 9:00 -10:00 am. Otherwise you will pay for a private pump boat and only few of you are the passengers. Then after that you will be back at maybe 2:00 - 3:00 pm.. Then that’s the time you will use your room again if you want to have some rest to prepare your self for all night long party again or dates. Because the following day you will have to prepare your things to catch up for your flight back.

I will tell you a story of what I have experienced in Boracay before so that you have an idea on what to do in case you will really try to be in that beautiful island in the Philippines and one of the beautiful islands in the world.

Let me share my experience on our first day and time we arrived in the island after putting all our things in our room. We then went outside to have lunch. We spent our time touring around the island. After that we did some walking along the beach (we’re the types who don’t want to go swimming till sundown, then have your dinner and spend all night long around live bands and some party along the beach).

I have acquired a cheap but beautiful, safe and cozy nipa hut or “Bahay Kubo’ type of cottage. Imagine that time it only costed us P750 for four of us because that’s the only cottage available where in the next day we only pay 500 for the two of us. But it’s a nice, beautiful clean duplex type of cottage with electric fan, a queen bed, shower and a balcony. It’s just a small walk maybe 100 meters from the beach front. I just forgot the name of that resort. But it’s nice.

A month before our planned date, I had a chat with someone in the internet. Someone that lives or works in the island. We became friends and she’s the one who gave us the idea on where to stay depending on our budget. We only spent P6,000 for that three-day-two-night stay which it will now cost you P10,000 -12,000 from travel agencies as we have consulted last month ago. This amount comes only with plane tickets, boat transfer and hotel room accommodation, without food and other expenses per head. Normally with this maybe you will have to prepare P15,000-20,000 per head.

Unforgettable trip in an unforgettable island. The only thing I forgot is the name of that beautiful girl who helped us find cheap accommodation.

Latest update: Things to Know when in Boracay

Boracay is the favorite place of most Filipinos in seasons like lent where there are long holidays with no work and classes. At this moment according to a news report, there are already an 85 - 95% occupancy rates in all of the hotels, motel and resorts in the Boracay Island.

 Do you know that you can still find cheaper place to stay in Boracay? You just have to make sure that you have pre-booked it ealier especially during peak season but if not and your purpose is just to see and experience the beauty of Boracay, you can still visit the island with out spending so much money.

 I know that most of those first timers and even that constant visitors only depend on travel agencies to find a place to stay in the island. So the agent has all the decision when to put you according only to your specified budget. Only to discover that there are beautiful places and much cheaper accommodations than the agency provided you.

It is almost 8 years ago when I last visited Boracay Island together with my office mate and my aunt. It was my first step in the paradise wine and fine sand of Boracay in March of 2000 with no ports and other new facilities yet that I know are existing now in Boracay. 

 We stayed for three days and two nights in the island, oblivious to the latest happening in the country/ When it was around that time was when the former president Estrada was kicked out from Malacanang after the successful 2^nd People Power Revolution.  

The world-famous island paradise of Boracay is located in Aklan province 345 kms. south of Manila. The island is accessible by air from Manila or Cebu through two principal gateways: Caticlan airport or Kalibo airport. The site has been voted as one of the best beaches in the world by the BMW Tropical Beach Handbook. The British Publication TV Quick in its issue of December 21, 1996 gave the latest accolade for Boracay as the number one tropical beach in the world.

With partying every night hosted by some beer companies, there were free reggae bands in the beach front and non-stop dancing and drinking.  It felt like you’re out of the world. There were island hopping and snorkeling during the day. Seems like its been a long time since I have been there.
