Bonding with my Son

July 03, 2008 By: Denice Category: Foods, Personal No Comments →

newkit.jpgA happy day for me is one spent with Kyle. I’m the type of mom who’d rather walk, play and run with my son than have a massage or party with friends to relax.

In this photo, Kyle and I just came from Gymboree where we played for a little over an hour. We took a quick stop to pose for his dad who took this photo. Our next stop will be at Brothers Burger so we can fill-up before we head off to Kyle’s favorite spot: Fully Booked in Boni High Street.

If there’s one clear thing Kyle inherited from me, it’s his love for going to bookstores and libraries. It doesn’t matter for him to be staying seated between the pages for three hours. It’s always difficult and usually results in crying sprees having to ask him time is up and it’s time to leave the place.

My Chopsticks Adventure

June 24, 2008 By: admin Category: Foods, Personal No Comments →

red_chopsticks.jpgI love to eat noodles. My wife Denice sometimes gets mad at me because I tend to run after instant noodles and she’s been telling me that too much or too frequent consumption of instant noodles would be bad for me already, so she tries to cut it from our grocery budget whenever she can. She also tells me to avoid eating instant noodles when my son is around, or he’ll eat too much of it as well.

But when it comes to authentic noodles, we all love it, especially me. My love for noodles is probably because it runs in my Japanese blood.

I love and eat whatever cooking styles noodles have gone through and whatever type — be it Japanese, Chinese, Thailand, Koreans noodles — among others. I tried almost all restaurants here that serve noodles and I love eating it with chopsticks. As you all know Filipinos use spoon and pork in our meals but I always have chopsticks at home. Why could be in the noodle that it is really good to eat when using chopsticks?!

That’s why in search of a reason why it really tastes and feels good when using chopsticks on the noodle, I have found a chopstick adventure in the website -Chopsticks- controversial, dining, gossip, female, lifestyle, opinions, puniaopuniao, puniao, pu niao, sexybluemame, sexy, blue, mame, sabrina, singapore, technology, travel, gadgets, games, food and all of other sorts of topics surrounding chopsticks adventure. Hope I could find the answer here.

Isdaan – Stop Over Restaurant in Tarlac

May 30, 2008 By: Denice Category: Foods, Tourism, Travel No Comments →

Each year, our family attends the Feast of Tabernacles. It’s my personal favorite time of the year of all the religious feasts we have. This is because it enables us to get away from it all for 10 days and spend each day focusing on spiritual things and bonding with the family in between religious activities. What could be more joyful than that?!

In the Philippines, there are three regions where this feast is being held: Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Since my family and I are based in Manila, we’ve been observing the feast in Luzon for over a decade now. Specifically, it’s usually held in Pangasinan where majority of members in Manila come from.

It takes about 4-5 hours to get to our destination. That’s way too long a drive for someone who’s not too keen about traveling. I like to travel but I must agree it’s quite a stretch.

But that’s until Isdaan, a floating restaurant in Gerona, Tarlac was established. I should say this tourist spot in Northern Luzon is a ‘must see” for people stopping over on the third hour or 54 kilometers of their travel time from Manila.

The view of cottages surrounded by fish ponds is great enough for picture taking. Food is great especially for those who love Filipino dishes. Think Barrio Fiesta — after all, Isdaan is owned by this famous restaurant. Walking further, statues of giant monkey is another sightful. And if you’re the type who wouldn’t mind shelling out P20 for a serenade, this is the place.

The most popular feature of this restaurant is the “Tacsiapo” (a local expression almost to a point of swearing) Wall. Think of an area where you can burst all your anger and the restaurant even provides breakable items to vent your anger with. These include plates, saucers, cups and yes, even old TV sets. Mind you though that each piece you break carries a price — literally these will be billed additionally long after you’ve eaten. As if to remind us all that we can’t be anger for too long, or you’ll pay.

Feast of Tabernacles will be fast approaching by third quarter of the year. You can almost tell where my family’s stopover will be the next time we tread along the same road often traveled.

Brazil - World Largest Sugar Producer

May 15, 2008 By: admin Category: Foods No Comments →

I was born and raised by the help of sugar. This is because my father worked as a Supervisor in the Cane Transport Department of a Sugar Milling Central in our province. I even worked there as a student trainee under the summer previleged program of the company when it was offering summer jobs to all children of company employees. So my everyday life then revolved around sugar and that’s how I obtained exposure to the industry. If the price of sugar gos up and down, I am sure it has an impact on us people.

With my little knowledge about the sugar industry, I can say that the supply and demand of sugar can serve as price indicator in a way. Like the world largest producing nation Brazil. The country produces 20% of the world total sugar production and Brazil sugar exports comprised almost 40% of sugar traded in the world. So Brazil sugar prices can really affect world sugar prices.

Brazil sugar production has been affected because of production of ethanol which is an alternative for fuel. Ethanol is also a product of sugar cane. The country cane crop has been turned over to sugar ethanol production and almost 50% of it goes to this. But despite this problem, Brazil has substantial amount of sugar to be exported. Like Brazils three International trade partners: US, Argentina and China. Check Brazilian Sugar Prices and they will export sugar directly from their sugar mills.

No Longer Afraid to Discover More New Restaurants

April 17, 2008 By: admin Category: Foods, Personal No Comments →

We love traveling and eating delicious foods. I believe this is a common denominator of my family and me, and I guess yours as well. We are fond of discovering new restaurants that serve the best and more importantly appetizing foods. We explore new restaurants that we just happen to passed by if we are on our way to a certain place.

Then we are able to discover new, cheap but the best restaurant along the way. However, this comes with a price: unwanted bulges. This is why I think we need to supplement our lifestyle with diet pills and more exercise to lose fat quickly, safely and permanently. This way, I’m no longer afraid to discover more new restaurants that come my way.

Island Cove – Covelandia on My Mind

April 13, 2008 By: Denice Category: Foods, Resort, Tourism, Travel No Comments →

islandcove_locationmap.jpgOne weekend, my family and I thought of having lunch at the Fisherman’s Village Restaurant located in Island Cove Hotel and Leisure Park, Cavite Philippines. The restaurant allowed us to dine in the midst of the lake surrounding the area. The view enabled us to appreciate the Pinoy dishes that we had.

However, what motivated me personally to come all the way to this resort is because of its Animal Island Wildlife or facility. We went here right after lunch. It’s the first time Kyle was able to be in a zoo where he saw real animals like tiger, crocodile, monkey, ostrich and many others that he’d usually read about in kiddie books. It made one lunchtime special.

Weeks after, I saw Gilbert Remulla on TV promoting the resort. The owner and General Manager of the resort gave a history of Island Cove. When he said this used to be called Covelandia, I was mighty shocked to find that this used to be my own family’s favorite resort when I was around 5 years old! I’m happy to know that Covelandia still exists today, only with a new name.

Super Bowl of China – Big Buddha Restaurant

March 23, 2008 By: admin Category: Foods No Comments →

logo.jpg We always love to eat in Super Bowl of China. My wife was the one who introduced me to this Chinese restaurant when Denice and I were still not married then. Evrytime I would visit her in Manila we would always have our date in Super Bowl. I will never forget the menu she made me try and these remain the dishes I keep ordering until now; crispy noodles with beef brisket, beef broccoli, lemon chicken, fried chicken and their fried rice with salted fish. Since then we still keep on coming back to the restaurant. I fell in love with its crispy noodles since noodles are really my favorite dish eversince. My Japanese blood could also be the reason why I love noodles so much.

Every time we have visitors, friends and relatives from the province we always recommend Super Bowl because foods there are delicious and not as pricey as the other restos. Service is also fine, you get your order in no time even when we have to wait for how many minutes before we could have our table ready. This is because they usually have long lines of customers lining up especially during lunch and dinner time.

I’m just sad that the restaurant doesn’t serve our favorite crispy noodles nowadays. I also visited their sister restaurant Big Buddha and unfortunately, it’s not served anymore in that place either.

Just hoping that the management or the owner of Superbowl of China and Big Buddah will serve it again…please!
