Paparazzi - Britney Spears

February 29, 2008 By: admin Category: Photography No Comments →

Paparazzi is everywhere, scattering in any place wherever celebrities and the famous usually hang out. This can mean even some private resorts and celebrities’ own house. There seems to be no limit as to what they can conquer.

is a plural term (paparazzo being the singular form) for photographers who take candid photographs of celebrities, usually by relentlessly shadowing them in their public and private activities. Celebrities claiming to have been hounded by such photographers often use “paparazzi” and even “stalkarazzi” as a pejorative term.

Do you know that they earn so much money from it? Maybe others do it for fun and hobby. The paparazzi earn money by selling those photos they have taken to magazines and newspapers that publish such photos.Admittedly, the paparazzi are a big help for  celebrities and public figures in general by increasing their visibility. They often earn large sums for a particularly controversial, good, or revealing pictures.

The latest and most popular pictures taken by the paparazzi is that Britney Spears. She is recently becoming a favorite subject among the paparazzi. They even managed to take a picture of her with out underwear.Britney was followed by eight paparazzi cars, while she’s driving in Malibu — nine if you include the one who actually took the picture. But now some states and countries particularly within Europe restrict their activities.
Theres a law passed for them due to their reputation as an annoyance. In some places also like Germany and France, photographers need the permission of the people in their photographs.

Manila Ocean Park - Singapore Underwater World

February 27, 2008 By: admin Category: Tourism, Travel No Comments →

t-manila_ocean_.jpgIf you ask me what country in Asia I want to visit with our family, I always answer  Singapore because I want to see the country’s underwater world resort, situated on Sentosa Island of Singapore. It is well-known oceanarium showcasing some 2500 marine life from 250 species from around the regions since its opening in 1991.

I want to see and walk through 83-metre-long moving travelator 180-degree curved walls a tunnel housing the majestic rays, fearsome sharks, great shoals of other fishes and a host of other creatures that inhabit the ocean depths.

This is why I am sio happy when I heard that Manila Ocean Park will open in Manila Bay Area. This P1-billion project of Singaporean and Malaysian investors is a world class marine park. The park is the first and largest aquarium in the Philippines. A 12,000 cubic meters of seawater wiuth 300 marine species from Philippines and Southeast Asia.

This will be the most advanced ocean parks in Asia larger than the famous Sentosa oceanarium in Singapore. But unlike Singapore Underwater world, Philippine oceanarium is a 25-meter long walkway tunnel with 220-degree curved acrylic walls.I am so happy that it will now open this March 2008 after few delays on their expected opening last December.

I am sure I will save money in terms of fare to bring my family down under the waterworld.

Operating Hours
Manila Ocean Park is open from 10am – 9pm, Mondays through Sundays.

Entrance Fee
The Entrance Fee for adults is PHP400 (approximately US$10) and PHP350 (approximately US$9) for children.

February 26, 2008 (Tuesday)9:30am-12:00 Gymboree Learning Lab Program (Gymboree Play and Music Serendra Branch)

Today Kit and I took a time off from work so that we could see to it that we’d be there for another milestone for my son. Even though today was just a preview of the Gymboree Learning Lab School Readiness Program since the official first day of school was yet on June 9th, I consider this morning as Kyle David’s ‘real’ first day school. As first time parents, this was a new thing for me and his dad to learn. It’s a good thing the school has this session as it also gives parents like us a rehearsal prior to the full monty.
I was the proudest mom this morning watching my son from the glass windows outside his classroom. I was surprised that he did not cry nor made tantrums seeing that he’d be all by himself surrounded by 11 other little strangers and Teacher Joanna. To think that he’s an only child and I was expecting him to have initial discomfort dealing with other kids. Ok, there was an attempt for him to sneak out at first, but once his dad asked him to go back as class is still on-going, things have smoothen out. Praise Yahweh, Kyle David is smart enough to have known that his mom and dad were just outside waiting for him. He blended easily! I knew his dad who was beside me all along was the proudest father during this moment as well.
The class started with lots of singing and greeting each other and later proceeded with basic letters and art where Kyle got to make use of water color to paint smiley face on his hand and to color a flower drawing. My heart jumped with joy when Kyle was called to come in front at the board and he correctly placed a xylophone drawing beside a letter X. The alphabet we taught him at home was finally showing off. It’s true as they say, just keep sowing the seeds of knowledge to your kids and one day they will grow and bear fruit, just as I have started to experience the beginning of many harvests.
There was an equal split of boys and girls from a total of 12 kids who attended. I was told there should be a maximum of 10 kids per class but I could very much understand parents who wanted their kids to squeeze in (mine included). Better list down the names of his classmates while I can remember 10 out of 11 (because the 11th kid went out and never came back): Alexis, Alonso, Beyonce, Clarisse, Enzo, Harry, Kevin, Hugh-ann, Patricia and Sabine. However, we made two booboos as neophytes in the preschool department: first, we didn’t bring a digicam to capture this very important event, and second, we didn’t prepare Kyle’s “baon” besides water as we thought two hours and a half would be a breeze. Good grief Conti’s is a stone’s throw away so when Teacher Joanna declared “recess time” from 10:30-11:00am, I was able to buy chicken pie and cheese mammon for Kyle. Our profuse apologies, Toto Kyle. Next time we’ll ensure tetra packs of juices, RTD-choco and RTD-milks will come in handy along with sandwiches we’ll prepare for you. We did not realize how Kyle could need so much.
After recess time, just when Kyle and all the other kids started to feel bored, there was a change of venue as well as teacher. Teacher Marielle took over and in the playroom they had a great time singing, playing and doing lots of physical movements with games like “watering the flowers” and “jumping in the pond” among many others.
I realized that two hours and a half are long enough to bear for kids his age. The schedule allowed them to do a lot and even managed to have quick nap of about 5 minutes before they headed back to the classroom. Another coloring activity once inside the classroom and finally, it was time to call it a day. The funny thing was that Kyle already collected the little chairs and put them all back as if telling everyone he’s had enough for the day.
Other kids were also doing their own thing already by this time. Good thing Teacher Marielle was sensitive and flexible such that she just asked the kids to sit on the floor and slowly the class was dismissed.
Thankfully, Kyle’s two (2) artworks were given to me and I felt proud that both had smiley marks for “very good.”
Kyle went out of the classroom just as excited as we were. I had a feeling he’ll enjoy the school time by June, and I also had a feeling his dad and I will be better prepared than we were today.

8 Waves Waterpark and Hotel

February 25, 2008 By: admin Category: Tourism, Travel No Comments →

safari22.jpg

For those of us with children and would rather be spared of  long road runs, yet at the same time are the type who enjoy the beaches and what long distance trips could offer,   8 Waves may be the place to go. 8 Waves is a little over an hour drive from Makati City. When our family first checked in, it was sort of a last resort because the original plans of trooping to Montemar Beach Club or Matabungkay Beach Resort were getting dim at the last minute.

100_2963.jpgWe bumped into 8 Waves through internet search and were initially skeptical because we weren’t expecting much of Bulacan where it is situated. Our initial drivers were the fact that breakfast will be at Pancake House because we’d always dine in this restaurant, and secondly because 8 Waves boasts of having the largest artificial waves in Asia and that got our curiosity running.

As we parked on our way in, we noticed that there’s a Mini Stop Convenience Store along the road and it’s also owned by 8 Waves. I thought its cool.

Reaching the lobby, we knew in an instant we’re going to love 8 Waves. We were given coupons for night swimming, day swimming and breakfast at Pancake which were inclusive of whatever we had to pay per person.  We enjoyed the place that we unanimously decided it’s worth an extension for another night. Thankfully we were able to persuade the supposed next occupant to transfer to another suite as we’re still not over ours.

100_2954.jpg<We also liked the way our rooms looked, most especially seeing my son having a great time with the eight (8) types of pools to choose from. Of course his favorite was the kiddie pool with Noah’s Ark for a theme. Second is the main pool with the largest waves.Personally I appreciated that its lobby has a baby grand piano and the fact that I was allowed to play some pieces in the evenings during my stay.

Very nice experience. On our way back home, we’re all one in wishing we can go back to 8 Waves again.

Simple Tips on Traveling with kids on the road

February 24, 2008 By: admin Category: Travel No Comments →

My family loves to travel. We often do travel by road with my wife and three year old son. My son Kyle David loves to travel so much since  the early age of  2 months. By then he has already experienced traveling for 6 hours straight already and by 6 months he already traveled by plane. I had something to learn from this. May this experience help you or guide you if you have plans to travel by road with your kids.

Plan first your family road trips, what kind of travel you’re in. A relaxed ride with plenty of breaks? Or does your car travel like a space capsule, hurtling through vast distances without a stop? Its not really a problem for my son if we travel even that far, as long as I drive fast with traffic, he just got irritated when we’d be stuck in a traffic.

1.  Travel Comfort – ensure first your kid comfort, because even your mood is directly affected by how comfortable you are. There  are a few things you can do to keep your kids happy by simply keeping them, first and foremost, comfortable. Put your kid in a position when he can see the road and other cars. My son loves car he even knows all brands of car so every time I’d sense that he will get irritated I do some question and answer on what car is that we’re seeing on the road.

>Make sure each kid has a small pillow and blanket, especially one from their own room that will be familiar and soothe. I bring with me my son Lighting Mc Queen pillow. >Stop often so the kids (and the parents) can get a chance to stretch their legs. This will also help them burn some pent up energy. Do it at rest areas and restaurants and other gasoline stop over..Give everyone a chance to move around.>My son loves classic music too, bring and play your son or daughter favorite songs.

2. Don’t let your kids  go hungry and thirsty. Ensure always that they feel nourished on the road:>Pack a cooler with bottled water, diluted juice and other  drinks ( as well as some healthy snacks like fresh diced fruit and sandwiches>I bring with me back pack or back complete with my sons all daily needs. A special backpack or bag for each child, with crayons, books, toys, activity sets, stickers, handheld games– including some new wrapped surprises for little kids and the most important Car Magazines which my on loves to read. Better if you have a new one which he will only open  in time of travel.

>Eat a good meal before you set off on the road so you won’t need food again for a while.

.

3. Keep the kids entertained on the road. Any parent knows a bored kid will, inevitably, get grumpy and start whining.> Play kid car trip games, ask him what car color, type or brands. You might even look for a book full of road trip games before you go.  >Bring a mix of entertainment items for each kid. Have books, magazines coloring books, games, handheld video games and handheld DVD players. My son loves to take some photos so he had always his digital camera with him.

Enjoy the whole trip, sing with your family but make sure road safety first. Start early, stop early. It will be less stressful for the kids to pull them out to the car predawn, and let them sleep through the ride a few hours, than to drive well into the night and drag them into a strange hotel to sleep.

Carbin Reef - Sagay City Negros Occidental

February 23, 2008 By: admin Category: Tourism, Travel, Uncategorized No Comments →

c11.jpg

I was born and raised in “ The Garden City of the North,” specifically  Sagay City in Negros Occidental. The name Sagay was derived from “sigay”, a semi-spherical shell which abounds in the city’s many islets and shores.  The 66th city in the Philippines,  Sagay is from the Northernmost tip of the island of Negros. It is bounded in the North by Asuncion Pass and Visayan sea; It is approximately 84 kms. from Bacolod City which is the Provincial Capital.

Sagay City’s history is as quaint and as colorful as its name. From a settlement hewn from the jungle about a century ago, it is today one of the newest progressive and dynamic city in the Philippines. Sagay can be easily identified in the map of Negros Occidental because of its ice-cream cone shape sliced from the northern tip of Negros It’s been two years that I have not gone back home. On why it is so memorable to me, there are many reasons.  I was once a government employee in Sagay City. I was assigned in the City Health Center where I started as Sanitation Inspector. My responsibility then was to maintain, uphold and implement the law of sanitation for five years I am proud to say that I contributed to the city’s reputation as the cleanest city in the province of Negros.    I missed the carbin reef Sagay Marine Reserve (Carbin Reef) Islets which are surrounded by corals a 32,000 hectares of Sagay’s territorial waters and were declared Protected Seascape under the National Integrated Protected Area System. On April 14, 2001, this same area became the Sagay Marine Reserve through Presidential Proclamation No. 592.

The reef  has 60 genera of hard, black and soft corals, and five species of giant clams, some as wide as one meter. You will see more than 250 species of reef and pelagic fishes, four species of marine turtles, five species of the endangered dugong (a large marine mammal which, together with the manatees, is one of four living species of the order Sirenia) among the ten species of sea grass and 78 species of Macro Benthic Algae covering 3,000 hectares.

In 1997, the reserve was given the Galing Pook Awards for Top Ten Innovative Programs on Marine Conservation and Protection.

Still a lot more to missed in Sagay City…..
